Brendan Iribe Secures Two GT Titles in One Weekend for McLaren

Even though it is just his fourth season racing McLaren GT cars, American racer Brendan Iribe secured two GT titles on both sides of the Atlantic this past weekend. Iribe showed his incredible skill and endurance by racing his McLaren 720S GT3 at both Road Atlanta and in Barcelona over a single weekend, with a long flight in-between the two races.

Iribe started his weekend at Road Atlanta on Saturday, joining teammates Jordan Pepper and Sebastian Priaulx in the Inception Racing McLaren 720S GT3 for the Michelin Endurance Cup GTD 10-hour endurance race. Their team managed to secure the title by the end of the long race, and Iribe spent over 2 hours 30 minutes in the car himself.

Before the race was over at Road Atlanta, Iribe was on his way to Barcelona to qualify for the Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe finale at the Spanish Grand Prix venue. The Inception team took the lead on Sunday with 45 minutes remaining of the intense 2-hour race. A tire puncture made things difficult, but the team was able to finish in seventh place at the end of the race, which was enough to secure the championship.

The Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe Gold Cup title is shared with McLaren GT racing teammates Frederik Schandorff and Ollie Millroy.

“It’s been an incredible season competing on both sides of the Atlantic all culminating in a final double header weekend. It was a rollercoaster of adrenaline, emotions and insane team work. Clinching the two titles within 24 hours was a dream come true for the entire team,” said Iribe. “I’m insanely proud and grateful to everyone at Optimum, McLaren, our rockstar drivers Jordan, Sebastian, Frederik and especially Ollie, who not only coached me on track, but also had to sacrifice one of the two titles since it was only possible for one of us to compete in both. What a weekend and what an awesome car. The McLaren 720S GT3 is a rocket!”
